A Month of Fun: Saturday, July 26
Attend the sixth annual Festival of Nations in Portland.
Eat, Dance, and Celebrate Diversity, Portland
There’s no getting around the fact that the Pine Tree State is woefully homogenous, especially when you venture outside of the major urban areas. Which is why the sixth annual Festival of Nations on July 26 is such a breath of fresh air, offering more than six hours of food, dancing, and crafts from Ireland, Ethiopia, Cambodia, and elsewhere around the globe. Past years have seen thousands of Mainers converging on the event in Deering Oaks Park, and this year’s lineup, which features the Maine-based, Franco-American group Boreal Tordu, is sure to be equally popular. Where else on this side of the Piscataqua might you see Nigerian masquerades? The entire event is geared toward children and families, so bring the tykes along (but be prepared: they might want to enter the dance competition at 5 p.m.). 207-761-9464. www.wini.us
