What is your favorite doughnut shop in Maine?
A good, fresh doughnut is hard to beat, but also hard to find. Where do you get your favorite doughnut in Maine?

In the December 2008 issue of Down East, we profiled five iconic doughnut shops across the state — plus a baker's dozen of other bakeries, restaurants, and general stores where they fry a mean doughnut. But we're sure there are more out there. Share your favorite local doughnut shop below.

Willow Street Bake Shoppe — double p and Olde English-y e and all!
Molasses, plain buttermilk, pumpkin (in season).... I could go on, but will refrain. The list will have me out of this office building and barreling toward Rockport should I continue.
Frank's Bakery: Bangor, ME
It's a great family owned bakery that has been open since 1945. Everyone in this area knows Frank's! Their chocolate glazed doughnuts just melt in your mouth. They make homemade everything: bread, meals, cakes, donuts. . . They have a real homemade "Maine" style. Classic New England baking.

Tony's Donuts in Portland - Insanely good. Really - somebody sold their soul to someone else to make donuts that incredible ....
Tony's Donuts are definitely the best. I live in Florida now but talk about Tony's all the time. You just can't find donuts like that here!
Another Tony's Donuts fan!The molasses are the best. I live in Wisconsin now and they just do not get it here. Donuts are nothing but fluff! When I am home to Portland, I head for Tony's.
PS The midwest also does not know what real chocolate donuts are either!
The Willow Street Bake Shoppe-Rockport, ME
There is never a time that I/we go past without stopping for the glazed molasses, or seasonal pumpkin...You really have missed a mouthwatering moment. Coffee is great also.
The Willow Street Bake Shoppe is the best. Although I moved from Midcoast Maine 27 years ago I never miss a chance to go pick up some Molasses donuts whenever I get back. Molasses donuts and Coffee milk, Yummmmmmmmmmmm....Makes me want to get on an airplane and come to get some. I guess I will wait until it stops snowing there though.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Hillman's in Fairfield. It's the best!
