If you once spoke the language of love (or perhaps your Mémère and Pepe did), check out the Franco American Heritage Center (46 Cedar St., 207-689-2000) in Lewiston to get back to your roots. A former church built back in 1907, this Franco community centerpiece is home to not only a performance hall that attracts international acts, but it also runs many French-speaking events and other gatherings in honor of Maine’s Franco heritage. If you’re looking to parlais a little French, attend La Recontre on the first Friday of every month and enjoy lunch and entertainment while speaking entirely in French. The center also hosts other events, like the Medieval Feast on September 19 and 20. Check online at www.francoamericanheritage.org for the latest performance and event schedule. If you’re lucky you’ll catch the center’s own sixty-seven-piece orchestra or, coming soon, their own dance company. Amusez-vous!
